The idea of ​​fragmentation is present in my creative processes, in my way of perceiving and thinking about everyday life for many years. And I only understand improvisation from the absence of intentions in everything I try to do with sounds, letting intuition take the reins of this wandering aimlessly. It was Walter Benjamin who replaced the intention — which dies for the truth — for the fragment — taken advantage of by reality. In either case, we are talking about intuition, always intuition, the real engine of artistic action.

This new album includes a selection of improvisations on the soprano saxophone. As with the previous Tenor Saxophone Solos album (LRCD011) released in 2018, Soprano Saxophone Solos is a way of sound download, a reckoning with me and the soprano. An inseparable companion for almost three decades, the soprano is an instrument with unattainable timbre possibilities with an impressive range of colors and textures. Its sound sources are inexhaustible and in these seventeen improvisations I search without limits for new timbre places, I delve deeper into sounds and discover unpublished soundscapes.

It’s exciting fun to venture out, take risks and enjoy the darkness and coolness that the soprano’s tube provided and be able to extract new minerals sounds from it. I like to follow closely and explore how sound objects evolve, always in an unpredictable and randomly way, towards the most diverse textures, shapes and structures. With the desire that these fragments recorded in several sessions in the solitude of Liquen Studios be to your liking.
